I prefer Lacanian psychosis -:) Lacanian psychoanalysis: He was a French Psychoanalyst who developed his ideas mainly in the 70's. They are not easy and everyone - including himself - says they are hard to understand - dense to read. Nevertheless they embrace an intriguing spectrum of ideas. Contra the British or Middle School of Psychoanalysis his emphasis is on language - language as a system of discourse mediated by signs in an area called the Symbolic that exists in the context of what he refers to as the Real and the Imaginary. I make occasional reference to Lacan on my blog found at conjoint.biz. There are many aspects to his thought. For instance he defines 4 discourses, and thinking about the Master discourse and the Analytic discourse he points out (I think) that the Master discourse is about authoratative designation and description including of the nature of this discourse itself. But, I say, that is a paradox, as this is being pointed out by him in, what must be, an authoratative manner. Still the contrast with the Psychoanalytic discourse is informative and poetic. The Psychoanalytic discourse is where we can be 'stupid' and say anything, thus revealing the unconscious. Something like that, anyway .... He has had a considerable influence on Cultural studies and his ideas are quite widely adopted in France, South America and elsewhere (Spain?), but not the UK, the US and Northern Europe (?) which is itself interesting. Em, except California which seems to be breeding their own perversion ... I hope I haven't gone on too much. Thanks for asking. Adam
