Information III

The movement away from a sense of self, perhaps a severance, is a symbolic death.
It must contain the death instinct.
It is to hold that there is some information that is not false or misleading and to convey that information regardless of who I am.
Anyone might have had, or can have, this information.
This information is about what are called objective facts.
Information about the facts about information.
Here we can begin to talk sensibly about the nature of information and it's ownership.

I distinguish three hypothetical parties.

  1. Myself (one's self).
  2. A group or organisation (of which one's self may or may not be a part).
  3. Anyone / everyone / all.

It seems that work is often equated with 'moving a focus' from 1. to 3. through 2. and that is felt as depersonalising. It is interesting the extent to which organisations (2.) will go to create a sense of sense and identity to 'balance' these feelings.
A company that is in the business of data and information handling (internet based companies) is very interested in the relationship between 2. and 3., for instance can 2. confer a sense of identity at 3.
This is in the face of the melancholy that invades people at 2.

There is a movement from 1. to 3. through 2. that involves death.
The way in which organisations operate often and in large measure is a defence.
It is not just myself the high contrast photo here.

For companies to succeed they must create a mirror in which we, at 3., can see ourselves.
